The Mummy: Tom Cruise told Annabelle Wallis that no one runs on-screen with him - Hollywood News

Tom Cruise's film career has shown that he is a born actor for action films. Not only with sagas like Mission: Impossible and Jack Reacher but also in other titles like The Mummy. The film, released in 2017, hoped to become the beginning of Universal's monster cinematic universe dark universe. Its box office figures and poor criticism prevented the studio's plans from moving forward. The film has made headlines again after Annabelle Wallis, Cruise's co-star in the film has told an anecdote behind the production chambers.

In an interview with THR, Wallis has revealed that Cruise told him that no one was running alongside him on screen. However, after standing firm on her idea of doing so and training, the actress managed to shoot those scenes alongside him.

"He is on a different level and I set myself a goal. I ran on-screen with him, but he said no at first. He said, 'No one runs on screen with me.' And I said, 'Well, I'm a good runner,' Wallis begins. "So, I was timing my treadmill so he could come in and watch me run. And then he added all these running scenes. So, it was. I thought it was better than an Oscar," he concludes.

The mummy, directed by Alex Kurtzman, grossed more than $400 million worldwide. However, it was not enough to continue with the Dark Universe, for which Universal had already signed actors such as Javier Bardem in the role of Frankenstein and Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man. In addition to Cruise and Wallis, the film featured Sofia Boutella, Russell Crowe, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Marwan Kenzari.
