Outlander: Release date, unknowns to solve and everything we know about season 6

The adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's novels has just finished its fifth installment and fans are already thinking about the next episodes.

Outlander season 5 has already put an end to its history and we can not say that it was a quiet installment. In the last 12 episodes, we have seen the Fraser family facing off against old enemies, firing old friends, and suffering attacks that will mark their trajectory from now on. Come on, they haven't stopped for a second and the spectators have suffered the tension with them, but now that this season has ended, it's time to look forward.

Once again, the 'droughtlander' begins, that drought that affects all fans between one batch of episodes and the next, and, although it is almost a year for Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan to become the most important date of the week, it's never too early to start thinking about what's to come.

Here we have compiled the unknowns that will focus the plot of Outlander season 6, the actors who will not return, and the possible release date, the one that all fans are looking forward to. We do not need to warn, but just in case ... Beware, SPOILERS!

THE ACTORS WHO WILL NOT BE
The fifth season of the series has meant the departure of several characters, some loved by the audience and others with a more than the deserved ending. For starters, Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speelers) has ceased to be a threat to the protagonists after he was sentenced to death and shot in the head by Brianna (Sophie Skelton), who has ended up sentencing his fate. We should not count on seeing him in the new installment, but surely the fans will not miss him.

Another who has also said goodbye to his colleagues -this with more pity on the part of the followers- is Duncan Lacroix, who played Murtagh. Jamie's mentor passed away in a militia battle and starred in one of the season's most emotional moments. Furthermore, David Berry surprised everyone by announcing that Lord John Grey's last appearance had been in the episode 'Journeycake' (5x11) and he said goodbye to fiction through an Instagram post. Given its importance in the Gabaldon novels, there are many who believe that it will return in the future. Also, his character is in Great Britain, so screenwriters can easily get him back.

CLAIRE'S FUTURE
The final chapter of Outlander season 5 has hosted one of the most tragic and important moments for Claire's future. After being kidnapped by Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy), he and his men repeatedly raped her as she tried to escape thinking of her family and loved ones. Although he is a strong character, we still have to explore the consequences that this act has on his life, something that we will see in the next batch of episodes.

"We had a lot of conversations about how to treat Claire's recovery in the most respectful and empowering way possible. Her path to recovery will continue in the coming season. I think the risk Claire takes as a strong character is that sometimes people forget that she is not Teflon. Things can hurt her deeply. We need to show that strength is not walking through life without anything affecting you. No one is like that. That is not human, "explains Balfe in an interview with The New York Times.

BASED ON 'WIND AND ASH'
Each season of the series adapts one of Diana Gabaldon's books and now it is the turn of Wind and Ash, the sixth of them. In this way, we can expect that the action will take place in 1772 and that the situation in the British Colonies will worsen at times until they achieve their independence. Jamie and Claire know very well how the situation will end and that all loyal to the king will end up dead or in exile, so they must be very careful in their alliances. Also, the time is approaching when Jamie Fraser reportedly dies in a fire with his relatives.

PREMIERE DATE OF SEASON 6 AND HOW MANY SEASONS WILL IT HAVE?
Fraser fans can breathe easy because Outlander's future is more than assured. In May 2018 it was announced that the drama had been renewed for a fifth and sixth season and everything seems to indicate that Starz will continue with it without problems, but there has not yet been an official announcement about new renewals.

What does not seem so sure is when the protagonists will return to the small screen. Outlander has never had a date on which broadcasts traditionally started, as the team takes the time to develop the episodes and it can take more than a year from season to season, but now things are more complicated than ever. The start of filming for the sixth season was scheduled for early May 2020, but, due to the coronavirus crisis, it had to be delayed until the autumn of the same year, as confirmed by Sam Heughan on his Twitter account.

In any case, the scripts are already prepared and you just have to wait until there is a bit of normality for the actors to get fully into the recording of the new episodes.
